Psychotherapy, therapy, and counseling are all names for a process in which someone seeks help for problems of an emotional and/or cognitive nature from a trained mental health professional. The Women’s Growth Center views therapy as a collaborative effort, a working partnership between client and therapist. In the context of an accepting, trusting, and non-judgmental relationship, the therapist facilitates client growth by helping the client to cope with challenges while learning about themselves in the process. A common misconception about therapy is that it will “fix” someone. Therapy is a process that takes commitment, hard work, and time. Self growth is an ongoing process that is neither instantaneous nor time limited. Psychiatric medication management is not offered at the Women’s Growth Center, however, referrals can be made when appropriate.
